Of the places around here that serve food or drink, roughly one in twenty is still going after midnight. That number is the whole problem with getting hungry late on an island built around a sunset and an early start.
It's also concentrated in a way nothing else here is. Around thirty of them sit in Canggu and Tibubeneng, two adjoining neighbourhoods holding most of the island's late hours between them.
What that means for a plan
If your evening is going to run late, where you sleep matters more than where you eat. A villa forty minutes from Canggu turns a spontaneous late dinner into a logistical decision, and it's the single most common thing I have to explain to clients who booked their own accommodation before calling me.
The other half of it is the drive. Late roads are empty and dark and full of scooters without lights. If a night is likely to end after midnight, I have a driver waiting rather than have you find one.
The honest version
Bali is not a late-night island, and people who arrive expecting one are disappointed by about the third evening. What it is instead is an early one, and once you stop fighting that, the days get considerably better. See the piece on what happens before seven.
